Dvne: Etemen Ænka Review

Sludge realm sci-fi progressive metal unit, Dvne, provided a triumphant release with this one. There is a beautiful balance on display here that centers the experience throughout, with layers of sounds struggling against each other at times and then a more natural stability returning on the horizon. Each instrument plays off of each other as if coming from a single minded beast that featured multiple appendages playing each artistically.

Dvne, a hybrid bastard child of Mastadon and The Ocean, shook me with this one, resonating deep with a wall of sounds that blast you to the core and dig at you. You'll find yourself contorting alongside rhythms and drifting at others.

Simply put, few albums will match the scope and magnitude of bold creativity that is displayed here this year and I urge all fans of the genre to give it a spin.
