Dungeons & Dragons: A Darkened Wish #1 Review

So, I'm a pretty big fan of tabletop games, largely thanks to Dungeons & Dragons. That said, when a new comic series by IDW caught my eye, I was obviously going to give it a chance.

I largely enjoyed the setup laid out here for future issues and arcs. I also found the color palate they went with to be fitting; setting a nice tone for the realm. The art in general feels a bit old school, but not necessarily in a bad way.

Giving away the twist of a major party member turning on the group in the first issue is bold, meaning that the lead up will need to be very well done since we know it's coming, but I'm willing to give Walters a chance to pull it off. He's a pretty competent writer. My biggest complaint is that I would have preferred the pace slowed down a bit, but I figure that the missing spots will be filled in on later issues so it's a rather minor grievance.

In short, if you are a D&D enthusiast, consider picking this one up. If not, only do so if you love fantasy stories and are craving something new. There is enough crumbs set down to make this an interesting run, though we'll have to wait and see where the road takes us from here.
