Red's Pro-Wrestling Digest #103: AEW Battle of the Belts VI

Event Card

AEW International Title: Orange(c) vs Dralistico ***1/4

TBS Title: Jade(c) vs Starkz ***

ROH Tag Titles: Lucha Bros(c) vs QTV ***1/4

A half-assed special event with the roster stepping up, Battle of the Belts VI somehow turned out to be a far more enjoyable experience than I had expected. Tony just doesn't seem to give a shit about these in the same way that Rampage tends to be an after-thought.

Oh well.

Orange continues to be a top-shelf champ. Dralistico could've been better, but the entire thing worked rather well. Overbooked with Ingo. stuff tied in, but it was done in a way that worked to be fair. Nothing to really complain about here.

Billie was given a lot in her shot against Jade which was a big surprise. It actually helped this one a lot, too. Green but with a lot of potential to match her energy, Starkz has a bright future and he work here made Jade look better than the champ tends to look. Props to both for a clash that overdelivered.

We closed with QT and Hobbs getting a shot at the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships for some reason. I've ever further behind on ROH so maybe they did something with this but I kind of doubt it. I also don't really care to see QT on TV that much but the good news, thanks largely to Penta and Fenix really being one of the best teams in the world, is that this did what everything else on the card did and it overdelivered. The right team won and Hobbs came off well.

So yeah, Battle of the Belts VI really looked like it was going to be just like basically every other edition of this ongoing. Instead, I had far more fun than I thought I was going to have.

Props to the roster.

Shout out to my bud Culticon who was at this one live.
