Captain Marvel was, to put it simply, a great film. For an origin story this late into the MCU, the bar is set pretty high and starting from zero can be a large task. That said, Marvel has more than proven that they are capable of putting out solid flicks anytime they want. Hell, even the worst MCU films are still entertaining.
Now, note that the alt-right creeps also tried (and failed) to influence the film's reception. Sad, isn't it?
Anyway, the character work here was enjoyable and everyone seemed to be cast well. Judging from the people in the AMC and the posts I am seeing online, Goose is the biggest star here. This also worked perfectly as an entertaining pit-stop before the huge Avengers film that is coming out soon.
