Styx: Crash of the Crown Review

Styx, Symphonic prog legends, are now seventeen albums deep into their run. They're in that position where they're forced to either rehash what they've done forever or to make an attempt to evolve to a degree but not so much that old fans will revolt.

They rode that line here in general while never pushing their boundaries too far, clearly having some fun along the way.

As a result, this is a worthy addition to any Styx fan's binder and just good enough on its own that anyone that tends to enjoy the genre should also consider giving it a try. In all, it's pretty good stuff from a group of very talented musicians on the backend of their careers.

Rating: ***1/2
