The Canadiens exhibition started hot with both teams scoring in the 1st. The group failed to capitalize on several opportunities and a late goal in the third from Montreal closed the door, breaking the tie and gave the Devils an L. This was a mixed bag but preseason games are always hard to truly gauge. Coming back to even things up before falling due to a shorthanded goal isn't the worst thing in the world, though. That hard-to-kill attitude will be a must this year.
Things went better against the Bruins with the Devils taking an OT win. Note that most are thinking that Boston is likely to be one of the top five teams in the league this year. Hughes scored twice, including the game-winner. Again, preseason games are virtually meaningless in the grand scheme, but coming through as an underdog frequently and putting the puck in the net often is hopefully what defines this season. Don't sleep on the Devils. They won't dominate but the team looks like more of a threat than people are giving them credit for.
Next up, the Devils meet the Rangers tonight.
